How Cynthia Fast-Tracked a Promotion, Pivoted into Marketing—and Reignited Her Creative Spark

From Customer Service to Career Fulfillment
Before joining the Purpose-Driven Career Accelerator, Cynthia felt stuck. Bartending nights and juggling customer service jobs by day, she wasn’t building a career—she was surviving.
“I was doing jobs that paid, but not great… I was miserable in the professional aspect of my life.”
She craved something more aligned, more fulfilling—and most of all, something that paid her worth.
The Turning Point: Inner Work Leads to Outer Change
Through the program, Cynthia didn’t just pivot her resume—she redefined her relationship with work.
“When you think of being a professional, you don’t necessarily look internally… Once we started doing that, I was able to take the things that make me feel fulfilled and apply them to a professional sense.”
She explored her passions, reconnected with creative talents, and began aligning her career with what made her feel alive.
Strategic Moves That Led to a Raise and Promotion
Cynthia secured a temp role at Billie, then used the following tactics to land a full-time position and promotion:
-
Set up coffee chats across departments to learn and show interest
-
Took initiative in Slack and stayed highly visible
-
Tracked her wins to use in performance reviews
-
Negotiated with confidence during reviews and stayed open to outside opportunities
“I was honest in my self-assessment and tracked every small success. I used that for leverage—from a raise to a promotion.”
Her behind-the-scenes grit paid off. She stood out in a competitive internal process—six interview rounds and 20 internal applicants—and landed a role in influencer marketing.
Beyond the Job: Building a Side Hustle and Creative Community
During coaching, Cynthia began building The Collective, a passion project designed to bring freelancers together. She also started freelancing as a makeup artist and dreamed up a longer-term vision of opening a bar-meets-networking space.
“I wasn’t expecting to start my own thing. But now I’m combining all my passions. It’s wild how everything’s aligning.”
The Latest Chapter: MasterClass, Marriage, and a Vision for More
Since our last session, Cynthia’s journey has continued to unfold beautifully.
“I’ve been working at MasterClass for the last year and a half, learning as much as I can about marketing. I’ve expanded into Podcast, Affiliate, and TV… and I’m hoping to move up to a Senior Manager role this year.”
She’s found her footing—and her confidence.
“I truly learned so much with you and have a confidence I didn’t have before. I’m so grateful and always recommend you to others.”
She also shared that she got married last year and is exploring art and makeup again—this time, for herself.
Her Advice for Anyone Feeling Stuck
If you’re on the fence about investing in yourself, Cynthia says:
“Do it. Especially if you’re unsure. Coaching helped me uncover things about my professional life—and myself—that I didn’t even know were there.”
