Career Inspiration: What advice would you give to your 22 year old career self?

This week, I looked back and reflected on my career up to this point. What advice would I give to my 22 year old self in terms of her career? I remember 22 very vividly. I just got back from traveling in Europe and moved back home to Simsbury, Connecticut to save some money to move to Wilmington, NC. There, I took my first waitressing job to learn the ropes. I knew those were skills I was going to need for a much anticipated career in the TV and Movie industry. When I moved to Wilmington, I was bright eyed and bushy tailed and excited for the adventure. For my first few years, I experienced many many set backs, false starts, disappointments – but, somehow, I kept going. I kept the vision of what I was desiring front and center and just kept going for it.

This week:

  • 12 Important Career Lessons Most People Learn Too Late in Life: All really good lessons here. What I could have benefited early on was knowing that success is incremental. I always wanted things quickly and would get so frustrated and depressed when I didn’t see results right away. Now, when I change gears career-wise, I do keep in mind that it does take time to build the empire.  Get Inspired!
  • Why You Should Change Careers Even When You Don’t Want To: What advice would you give your 22 year old self today? I would tell her to follow her dreams and desires. To look at fear in the eyes and and transform it into power, embrace change, have fun in the process and don’t take yourself too seriously! How about you? Get Inspired!
  • Song Inspiration! Electric Light Orchestra – Hold On Tight: This one pumps me up when I feel self-doubt or experiencing some disappointments. ELO tells us to simply hold on tight to our dreams.
